I was reading 1 Peter chapter five from The Message this week. When reading my bible I always look for the truths found in the passage of Scripture that I am reading and then I make an application question to apply the truth to my life. This particular morning, I said a prayer (which was my application question) asking God to please show me the way forward. Below are just a few of the things God spoke to my heart and/or showed me, in response to my question. I journaled:
If you look at this title and dismiss this blog as something that you don’t care to read, I challenge you to finish it all. It is much more than you think. People are pretty vocal about their opinions these days. Yes, everybody has at least one. But I have found that most people are only willing to stand for their opinions or beliefs to a point. When the rubber meets the road, many will back down in fear of what others may think or say. They also shrink back when they have doubts to the validity of what they think they believe. We do not
I picked up a book off my bookshelf this week titled, When God Winks: How the Power of Coincidence Guides Your Life, written by SQuire Rushnell. What a great title! What a great thought to ponder, When God Winks. In the first chapter of his book, Rushnell writes:
As I quietly pondered over thoughts about people in my life, I began to recall those relationships that touched me deeply enough to become friendships but for one reason or another something happened that caused them to be abruptly ripped from the picture. I found myself wondering what would have happened if we had fought harder to keep the friendship. In our human state our feelings sometimes get hurt. We occasionally feel betrayed or we lose patience with a certain personality flaw. What if we just had a momentary incorrect view of a situation? What if in our selfishness we had the wrong perspective on an issue?
“Whoever wants to embrace life and see the day fill up with good, Here’s what you do: Say nothing evil or hurtful; Snub evil and cultivate good; run after peace for all you’re worth. God looks on all this with approval, listening and responding well to what he’s asked; But he turns his back on those who do evil things.” (1 Peter 3:10-12, MSG)
It may appear strange to come to the realization at this point in my life that I know who I am. It is refreshing to not only know that I have a voice but that I know what to say. Moreover there is a strong perception of liberty due to the fact that I have matured enough that there are few among us that are capable of shutting me up or backing me down because I know what I am talking about.
What I want to say to you today seems so short and simple. But it is also very powerful, especially once we let it seep deep down into the core of our being and we begin to really believe it, which then leads to living it! I believe one of the main things God wants me to tell woman is: 1) You are beautiful and 2) He loves you!
“Relax, take the bumps as they come and enjoy the ride!” Those were the words of a young silver medalist winner, of the sledding competition, in the recent Olympic Games. She was being interviewed on NPR radio this past Monday evening. When asked, “What advice she would give others?” she replied with the above words saying, “Relax, take the bumps as they come and enjoy the ride!” Then she added the exact thought that I was thinking, by saying, “That’s good advice for life, too!”
God Doesn't Love Us All The Same, by Nina Guilbeau
Janine Harris never really thought about homeless people. She barely even notices them as she passes them by on her way to work in downtown Washington D.C. All Janine can focus on is the shambles of her own young life, afraid that she will never be able to get past the painful mistakes she has made. However, all of that changes on a snowy evening in December when Janine unexpectedly finds herself alone with Vera, an old, homeless woman who seems to need her help. Now Janie wants to know what could have possibly happened to Vera to leave her so broken and alone.
As Vera shares her life story with Janine, the two women form an unusual bond and begin a journey that changes both of their lives forever. Reluctantly, they each confront their own past and, in the process, discover the true meaning of sacrifice, family and love. Although to truly move forward in their lives, they must fast the most difficult challenge of all – forgiving themselves.
