I picked up a book off my bookshelf this week titled, When God Winks: How the Power of Coincidence Guides Your Life, written by SQuire Rushnell. What a great title! What a great thought to ponder, When God Winks. In the first chapter of his book, Rushnell writes:
Think back to when you were a child, sitting at the dinner table with the
grownups. You looked up and saw a parent or grandparent smiling at you. And
then they winked. That wink was a message of loving reassurance
saying, “Hey, kid, I’m thinking about you. You’re OK. Hang in there.”1
Isn’t that beautiful? I had never really thought about it much before, but this book is opening my eyes to the power and blessing of a wink. It’s amazing that a simple gesture, without a sound being made, can convey such a personal and encouraging message to the receiver. Yes?! Think about it. Whenever you either wink at someone or are winked at, doesn’t it make your heart smile? And as SQuire Rushnell puts it, isn’t it a gesture of “loving reassurance”?
The main point, the author makes in his book (thus far, anyway, for I am only half way through reading the book) is that coincidences are not coincidences at all; in his eyes, they are God winks! They are a way that God is communicating with us, without a word, He is saying, “Hey, kid, I’m thinking about you. You’re OK. Hang in there.” The author conveys the thought that when things are falling into place and “coincidences” are happening in your life, it is God lovingly reassuring you that you are on the right path and you are not alone. Rushnell encourages you to look back over your life and see where you believe God was winking at you. He also encourages you to keep a journal of all the “God winks” in your life. What a great idea! How encouraging would that be, especially to look at when things seem to not be going your way?!
So, what about you? Can you think of a time when God may have been winking at you? When is the last time you winked at someone you love? Be encouraged today, daughter of the King, you are not alone. God is always thinking about you and watching everything that concerns you (1 Peter 5:7b, TLB). You are on the right path. You are OK! Hang in there and keep going. God is going to work everything out in your life because He loves you!

“Praying Scripture is the most powerful and effective way to pray for your marriage. It can be a daunting task to search out all the passages that apply, though. In this book, Tammy has done the hard work for us in compiling a beautiful arrangement of God's attributes along with verses to pray for myself, as a wife, and verses to pray over my husband and marriage. The Lord has used many of these passages to bear fruit in my own life and marriage."
