I went for a walk this week, which is something I try to do at least four to five times a week, but this day it was different. I was walking the same “route” that I usually take to get my 30 minute walk in, when all of a sudden my ankle twisted and I was down on the ground, on the black top, on the side of the road! I hit the ground hard and was stunned.
In Jackson, the state capitol of Mississippi, the bill moving through the legislature to impose a restrictive regulation on the state’s only abortion clinic is causing controversy. But the temperature in this debate is turned up one early morning when the Reverend Jimmy Aldridge is shot to death while preparing to protest at that same clinic.
Chapter One Six years, it had taken six years to get to this moment. Kersten tried not to look too smug and accomplished as she extended her arm out in front of the Registrar. The man was tall and emotionless and towered over her like a dark tree as he pressed the cold metal of a RR gun against the inside of her arm. With a little unnecessary pressure, and a click of the trigger, he inserted Kersten’s newly updated registration card at the crook of her elbow and motioned her forward. Except for a slight twitch in her left eye, she didn’t flinch when the rush of fire ran down her arm and into her fingertips, making her hand numb for a good thirty seconds before the feeling returned.
Juania Books is happy to introduce our next creative writer to host the Women’s Fiction Club’s Help Write a Novella series. M.A. Kear will be writing a Sci-Fi/Fantasy starting April 5th. Now time out for a quick reminder: Even though it’s called Women’s Fiction Club, it’s not a reference to the gender of the author or reader or genre. The only rules for the WFC are that stories are fiction and the main character is female. Outside of that, WFC readers just want to know if the book is good!

I was reading 1 Peter chapter five from The Message this week. When reading my bible I always look for the truths found in the passage of Scripture that I am reading and then I make an application question to apply the truth to my life. This particular morning, I said a prayer (which was my application question) asking God to please show me the way forward. Below are just a few of the things God spoke to my heart and/or showed me, in response to my question. I journaled:
If you look at this title and dismiss this blog as something that you don’t care to read, I challenge you to finish it all. It is much more than you think. People are pretty vocal about their opinions these days. Yes, everybody has at least one. But I have found that most people are only willing to stand for their opinions or beliefs to a point. When the rubber meets the road, many will back down in fear of what others may think or say. They also shrink back when they have doubts to the validity of what they think they believe. We do not
I picked up a book off my bookshelf this week titled, When God Winks: How the Power of Coincidence Guides Your Life, written by SQuire Rushnell. What a great title! What a great thought to ponder, When God Winks. In the first chapter of his book, Rushnell writes:
As I quietly pondered over thoughts about people in my life, I began to recall those relationships that touched me deeply enough to become friendships but for one reason or another something happened that caused them to be abruptly ripped from the picture. I found myself wondering what would have happened if we had fought harder to keep the friendship. In our human state our feelings sometimes get hurt. We occasionally feel betrayed or we lose patience with a certain personality flaw. What if we just had a momentary incorrect view of a situation? What if in our selfishness we had the wrong perspective on an issue?
“Whoever wants to embrace life and see the day fill up with good, Here’s what you do: Say nothing evil or hurtful; Snub evil and cultivate good; run after peace for all you’re worth. God looks on all this with approval, listening and responding well to what he’s asked; But he turns his back on those who do evil things.” (1 Peter 3:10-12, MSG)
God Doesn't Love Us All The Same, by Nina Guilbeau
Janine Harris never really thought about homeless people. She barely even notices them as she passes them by on her way to work in downtown Washington D.C. All Janine can focus on is the shambles of her own young life, afraid that she will never be able to get past the painful mistakes she has made. However, all of that changes on a snowy evening in December when Janine unexpectedly finds herself alone with Vera, an old, homeless woman who seems to need her help. Now Janie wants to know what could have possibly happened to Vera to leave her so broken and alone.
As Vera shares her life story with Janine, the two women form an unusual bond and begin a journey that changes both of their lives forever. Reluctantly, they each confront their own past and, in the process, discover the true meaning of sacrifice, family and love. Although to truly move forward in their lives, they must fast the most difficult challenge of all – forgiving themselves.
